My First Solo Art Exhibition
Share
Art has always been a way for me to connect with the landscapes I love. It also helps me revisit memories that are special to me. My first solo exhibition, ‘Echoes of the Land,’ is a journey I’m excited to share with you. Here are my thoughts on my first solo art exhibition.
A Special Milestone: My First Solo Art Exhibition
The exhibition was organised and presented by Meath County Council Arts Office. There were a number of press releases in local newspapers in the week before the exhibition. I was also invited to speak with Gerry Kelly on LMFM’s Late Lunch. I usually find speaking a bit daunting, but Gerry’s kindness and warmth instantly put me at ease and made the interview feel natural.
I felt so proud of myself for having a conversation live on air. When I started out on this journey, I couldn't have imagined being able to do that. If you would like to listen to the interview, just click on the link here.
The Collection: Ireland’s Landscapes
Seventeen vibrant and uplifting pieces were chosen for the art exhibition. Each piece was inspired by the landscapes of Ireland. In particular, I painted the areas around Meath, where I live, and the west coast of Ireland where I love to visit.
While each piece is deeply personal to me, it was wonderful to hear how they evoked unique feelings and memories for others. My aim was to capture the freedom and joy of these places. I also wanted to depict the atmosphere and mood that make them so captivating. Every painting holds a special significance, with stories and memories behind each one. With the pieces complete, the next step was seeing them come to life in a gallery setting.
Opening Night: A Moment to Remember
The art exhibition was opened with beautiful words from the Cathaoirleach, Cllr Sharon Tolan. I also said a few words myself which is another personal moment of achievement. I see the exhibition as more than an opportunity to display my art - it's a celebration of the personal and artistic growth I’ve experienced over the years.
I’m grateful to present my work in a space as historic as Kells Courthouse. I’m also very thankful to the Meath Arts Office for giving me this opportunity to share my art with the community.
The opening night was a special and unforgettable experience. Seeing a collection of my work displayed in a gallery setting for the first time was a truly rewarding achievement. Definitely a moment to be cherished.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next
While my solo art exhibition is a huge milestone, it also feels like just the beginning. I’m already excited about the new ideas and inspirations that have come from this experience. I can’t wait to see where my work takes me next. For now, though, I’m taking a moment to celebrate how far I’ve come. I'm also reflecting on, and appreciating, the support of everyone who has helped me along the way.
I would love for you to experience the atmosphere of the exhibition in person at Kells Courthouse. The exhibition is open until 31st October 2024. If you can't make it, please feel free to explore the collection on my website here.
This exhibition marks a new chapter in my artistic journey, and I’m very grateful to share it with you. If you have any comments or questions, I'd love to hear from you, you can get in touch with me here.
