Time to Explore: Coastal & Landscape Paintings from the Studio

Lately, my studio work has been about giving myself permission to slow down and really explore atmosphere.

I keep returning to coastal and landscape scenes - places where land, sea and sky meet, and where the mood can shift so quickly. I’m drawn to those quieter moments: softened light, heavy skies, the feeling just before rain or as the day begins to fade. These are the moments that stay with me, and they often find their way into my paintings.

During this time, I’ve been developing a new series of Irish inspired paintings. Letting go of a fixed plan and allowing the painting to unfold layer by layer has opened up new possibilities.

Some paintings take their time, changing direction as they develop. Others come together more instinctively. Having space to sit with that process - to adjust, step back, and respond - has been an important part of this body of work.

This period of focused studio time has been supported by the Professional Artist Development Fund, which has allowed me the time and space to experiment, reflect, and develop my practice further.

I’ll continue to share glimpses of this work as it evolves, both finished pieces and moments from the studio along the way.

This project was supported by Meath County Council Arts Office and Creative Ireland through the Professional Artist Development Fund.
