Your Story on Canvas: A Guide to Commissioning Art You’ll Treasure

Fiona McKenna

Have you ever wished you could bottle up the feeling of a special place? Maybe it’s a beach where you spent childhood summers, a walk you take with someone you love, or simply the sweep of an Irish landscape that feels like home. Commissioning an original painting is a beautiful way to bring that memory to life - and to enjoy it every single day.

And the best part? It’s much simpler than people imagine. Here’s how it works with me:

Step 1: Explore and get inspired

Take a look through my website to see the kinds of colours, scenes, and moods that draw you in. Don’t overthink it - just notice what makes you stop and feel something. That’s usually a good sign we’re on the right track.

Step 2: Get in touch

Pop me a message using the form on my site or email me directly. Tell me about your idea - maybe it’s a certain place, or maybe it’s just a feeling or colour palette you love. We’ll chat about size, style, and where the painting will hang, so it feels just right for you.

Step 3: Receive your quote

Based on our conversation, I’ll give you a quote. If you’re happy to go ahead, a 50% deposit secures your commission with prices varying depending on size and detail.

Step 4: Watch your vision come to life

This is the fun part. I’ll keep you updated with progress photos as your painting develops. If you’d like, I can also arrange framing so it arrives ready to hang in its new home.

Commissioning a painting isn’t just about owning art - it’s about creating something deeply personal. It makes a wonderful gift for weddings, anniversaries, or a new home, but it’s also a way to celebrate your own journey. From the wild Irish coastlines to quiet countryside fields, your painting will hold the places and moments that matter most to you.

If you’d like to start a no-obligation chat about an idea, you can reach me at hello@fionamckenna.com or find out more information here. And if you’d rather talk it through on the phone, just let me know - I’m happy to set that up.

I’d love to help turn your memories into a painting that will be treasured for years to come.

Fiona x
